Hong Kong: HFMD and EV71 situation update

A spokesman for the Department of Health said reports about one enterovirus 71 infection and two hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) institutional outbreaks were received during the 24 hours ending at noon today (July 29).

This brings to 81 and 590 the cumulative total numbers of laboratory confirmed EV71 infections and HFMD institutional outbreaks in 2010 respectively.

The new school outbreaks were in Kowloon City and Kwun Tong.

There is currently no school closure.

More information about the current status of HFMD is available from a daily situation report published by the Centre for Health Protection on its website, www.chp.gov.hk .
