Cool change sweeps over Biloela Civic Centre
Local Government Minister Desley Boyle said Banana Shire Council has received State Government funding of close to $100,000 for the projects.
“Installing tanks to collect rainwater from the large roof catchment area of the centre makes good sense,” Ms Boyle said.
“It will help conserve the township’s main water supply, and allow council to keep the surrounding gardens in good order by using the harvested water,” she said.
“The State is contributing $43,249 towards the $72,083 water storage project and council is expected to complete the work as soon as February.”
Banana Shire Council has also received $35,389 in State funding to go towards air-conditioning the civic centre foyer, and a further $15,647 to install the shades in the courtyard.
“The civic centre is used by many people and it hosts a range of events including trade expos, school formals and balls, weddings, industry summits, eisteddfods, social functions and career markets.
“Locals and visitors alike will now be able to enjoy these events in greater comfort.”
Ms Boyle said the new shade sails will also be a big plus for the civic centre, with work expected to be completed by March.
“Combined with the other shade structures in the area, this project will provide a significant public shaded area in the town – again, a blessing when the temperatures soar.
“Providing shade will protect all patrons of the civic centre, particularly the many youngsters who play in the courtyard.
“The project will reduce sun exposure risk at a low cost, and will allow the centre to be used for more functions and events with better weather protection.”
Since July 1, 2006, Banana Shire Council had received more than $4.3 million in State local government grants.
