The concept of a telethon was a joint effort between MTV and movie star George Clooney. Early reports coming in estimate that the money raised to be in the area of $10-$15 million from the donations made. Phones are still open to donate.

Many stars and organizations are pitching in to help the poor country which suffered two earthquakes that caused thousands of deaths and massive destruction of property.

The event had many musical performers including Beyonce, Jay-Z, U2, Justin Timberlake, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow and many others.
